Jim,

I loved the CAT, too. My first thought was maybe you threw in some Egyptian stuff, but the all-caps was a giveaway.

When I finish compiling the abbreviation list for the dissertation I might add it as a tab on the blog for exactly this reason.

I knew you knew what it meant. But, it made me realize (again) that some folks might not. Hence the over-descriptive answer.

Yeah, I knew it was CAT/KTU, which is why it's so funny! I wonder what other things look so common to us that we ignore them, but would raise eyebrows of others! The word cloud really highlights the word/term/abbreviations we tend to read over.

LOL! It's CAT Cuneiform Alphabetic Texts (aka KTU2). I'll leave it to Steve Wiggins to talk about cat rituals in the ancient Near East.

I'm hoping everyone can read it soon, but I've got to finish editing the dang dissertation before I'll let folks see it.

There are no priests in chapter one. They don't show up in the dissertation till the last two chapters. Ugaritic ritual texts don't mention the priests' roles, only those of the king. That's part of what got me interested in these texts to begin with.
